The Other Dave here. I recently painted an EMP Troll for Silver Bayonet, and I mentioned that it was ridiculously quick to paint, it took me literally minutes.
Using my adopted four-foot rule, the model is more than adequate for tabletop gaming (four foot away on a table with other miniatures it looks fine).
It did bug me though, usually with bigger characters I use the two-foot rule in that a miniature positively stands out. Now I didn’t what to revisit the original Troll, well not yet, so on a recent visit to John at the Sheffield store I picked up another Troll. This one I painted bluey-grey (maybe a theme is developing, green for forest, blue for ice and water, and red...?).
As it was a Two-foot model it got some extra attention. To start I hand primed with my MB Paint Grey. I then used a GW Wolf grey contrast on the furry bits. I used Army Painters (AP) Kobold Skin on the horns and claws; this provided a decent base.
AP Electric blue for the eyes. For all the skin an edge highlight of AP Voidshield Blue. For the horns and claws an edge highlight of AP Mummy Robes. On the fur I applied a very specific, very light drybrush of AP Frost blue. The overall effect I wanted was light from above.
The piece I can’t remember are the colours I used for the rock, it was painted the day before and once I’ve slept, incompetence, ignorance and other negative factors creep in – Sorry.
I am happy to stop here as a Two-foot model. It’s ready for the tabletop, it was relatively quick to paint and compared to the Green Troll is a much-improved paintjob.
If you got this far, thank you. Comments, questions and feedback appreciated.
