Zombies, a great generic sprue.

The Other Dave here. Recently I’ve been trying to write a piece about Wargames Atlantic’s Zombies, and the universe has conspired against me on achieving this. That isn’t true in any sense, I got delayed, diverted and definitely distracted, but I got there in the end. 
Okay, if you have read some previous musings, it is no secret that I like this sprue – a lot. So, what makes this such a likeable sprue? Let’s get technical. The sprue comes with six, bodies and legs, and enough arms for eight bodies (I think, I built eight zombies with some bodes from some previous sprues.) Not that impressive so far, I agree. Well, it’s the heads, so many, and the variety has blown my mind. This is why this is a good sprue, pure and simple. This is not a definitive and probably not that accurate list, but you get a flavour, simple zombie heads; heads with either Roman or some kind of Ancient Helmet; Napoleonic hats; Pirate hats; maybe cowboy? German WWII helmets, and others.
The models go together easy, and they look the part. They have that Shambley, awkward feel.
This is a clever sprue, the bodies are generic in they are clad in rags, and it’s the heads that provide the biggest clue as to the period the zombie is from, with maybe some appropriate colours on the clothing to help. Coupled with arms I think they look good.
I did build some extras with some additional bodies, because why not, and I’m glad I did because it made me compare them, and it got me thinking.
So, above I said pure and simple as to why this is a good sprue, I have discovered it’s not that simple. I compared these zombies against some kit-bashed zombies I built previously for Silver Bayonet, and I preferred the kit-bashed ones using the Napoleonic bodies. Confused, yeah maybe, but please bear with me. My rationale going forward is the zombie sprue provides me with six excellent generic zombies, maybe bareheaded? It also provides me with a lot of period specific heads which are excellent for kit-bashing with the relevant period bodies, and that is why I think this is an even better Sprue than I originally thought, because can you never have too many Zombies.
